About Sprint Links
Here are some of my favorite links to other sprint car resources on
the net.
Since you can find NASCAR, NHRA, Indy car (both flavors) and F1
racing everywhere on the Web these days, I've listed only sites
that provide information about open-wheel dirt track racing. Check the
usual indices, such as
Yahoo,
for those better-known motorsports.
The sites listed here are culled from a stack of suggestions I've
received, and the descriptions are my own opinions. If you would like
to make a suggestion, or correct some misinformation I've inadvertently
displayed here,
please write me.
I make no guarantees about how soon I'll add new listings, but I'll make
corrections at my earliest opportunity.
Racing news
Here are the places where you can satisfy your need for current race
news.
US and international racing news
Local and regional news
Sanctioning bodies
These sanctioning bodies have official World-Wide Web sites.
United States
- The
World of Outlaws
set the standard by which all other winged sprint car organizations are
judged. Here's where you'll find the best sprint car racers in America.
- And the series the Outlaws were outlawed from, the
USAC Thunder & Lightning
Sprint Car championship,
has a page provided by the
Insight Marketing Group.
-
After a long delay,
USAC's own Web page
has finally appeared. Look here for the latest on USAC sprint, midget,
and Silver Crown racing, on dirt and pavement.
- Primarily a regional tour in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and Indiana, the
All Star Circuit of
Champions
is a breeding ground for the outlaw stars
of tomorrow, and a hotbed of top-notch sprint car racing in its own
right.
- The
American Sprint Car Series
is a spec-head 360 cubic inch winged sprint car series sanctioning
races throughout America's midsection, from Montana and North Dakota
through eastern Texas, Louisiana and the Florida panhandle, including
the 2nd Annual ASCS Nationals at Devil's Bowl, Texas.
- Another spec-head 360 series, the
Arizona Sprint Car Association
sanctions non-winged racing in southern Arizona, with Manzanita Raceway
in Phoenix as their home track.
- Sprint cars in Upstate New York? Better believe it! The
Empire Super Sprints
tour is making tracks in a region previously known as dirt modified
country!
- Another Empire State tour, the
Central New York Mini
Sprints,
organizes mini-sprint races throughout central New York and northern
Pennsylvania.
- A sanctioning body with a long history centered in the American
Midwest, but with member tracks in 29 states, the
International Motor Contest
Association
(IMCA) sanctions sprint car, modified, and stock car racing series for
the grassroots oval track racer throughout the US. See their web site
for the latest news, rules, and lots more.
- The
Interstate Racing
Association
(IRA) tours the states of Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, and Michigan.
- Another historic sanctioning body, the
National Championship Racing
Organization
(NCRA) sanctions "Outlaw" and 360 sprint car racing, along with
modifieds and late model stocks, from North Dakota to Louisiana.
- For more from the Northern California winged wars, see the
Golden State Challenge
"King of California" site, or
John Padjen Motorsport's Golden State Challenge site.
- Formed from the ashes of the California Racing Association (CRA), the
Sprint Car Racing Association
(SCRA) commutes between dual "home tracks" in Perris, CA (Perris Auto
Speedway) and Phoenix, AZ (Manzanita Speedway). The
future of Southern California sprint car racing - and non-winged sprints
in particular - can be seen at this web site.
- The great state of Virginia is the home of the
Virginia Sprint
Series,
another spec-head series aiming to keep a tight control on costs.
- Dirt track racers in the north central US, from four-banger stocks
to sprint cars, can find a place to race under the
WISSOTA
banner. The organization's reach stretches from its original home base
in Minnesota and northern Wisconsin to the Dakotas, Montana, and
Wyoming.
-
Merced (CA) Speedway is the home track of the
Renegade 360 Sprints.
They're running on asphalt at a variety of Central California
speedways.
-
The California
Sprint Car Civil War Series
is a Northern California tour for winged 360s, circulating between
Chico's Silver Dollar Speedway, Placerville Speedway, Marysville's Twin
Cities Speedway, Petaluma Speedway, and Antioch Speedway. These Civil
Wars should be fun to watch!
Australia and New Zealand
- Australia's biggest sprint car organization is the
World Series Sprintcars.
This is where Aussie stars Max Dumesny and Brooke Tatnell play, and
where America's stars go to practice when the US circuit is taking its
winter vacation!
Race tracks
There are a surprising number of sprint car race tracks on the Web,
and more are coming. Write me
and let me know of your favorites.
United States and Canada
Don't forget to check out the
California Tracks page!
- What better track to start with than the home of the most
prestigious race in all of sprint car racing,
Knoxville (Iowa) Raceway?
Get your ticket order form for the Knoxville Nationals here, and
check out the schedule, results, and photos from the best known half
mile in all of sprint car racing!
- The home of the Pennsylvania Posse,
Williams Grove (PA) Speedway,
has news, schedules, points standings, and more.
This historic half mile stands ready to break new ground into the next
millenium.
-
Pennsylvania Motor Speedway,
located near Pittsburgh, hosts a variety of dirt track racing on
"Dirt's Monster 1/2 Mile".
- The birthplace of the World of Outlaws,
Devil's Bowl Speedway in
Mesquite, Texas, continues in their 24th season.
-
Wayne County (OH)
Speedway,
a 3/8 mile oval, races 360 sprints on a weekly basis, and hosts
occasional
All-Star sprint car
races as well.
- Lincoln, Nebraska's
Eagle Raceway
hosts winged 360 sprints and IMCA modifieds on a weekly basis, and
annual visits by the World of Outlaws tour.
Race teams and drivers
Believe it or not, some race teams actually have time to build
World-Wide Web sites! Check out the following teams and drivers, and
please support them in any way you can.
Race teams
- The
Moose Racing
team owned by Tom and Laurie Sertich runs the #92 sprint car on the
SCRA circuit with young Californian Danny Sheridan at the wheel in 2001.
- Among the San Jose (CA) Speedway regulars with a web page is
Larkin Motorsports.
The Larkin #53 is a 360 cubic inch sprinter wheeled by driver/crewman
Norm Merrill, and sponsored by
Country Rogue
Construction.
- The
Robenalt Racing Team
runs 410 and 360 sprint cars in Ohio, primarily at Flag City
Motorsports Park. Driver Bruce Robenalt, owner Dorothy and crew chief
Rob are looking for sponsors -- please give them your support!
- Ty Hawkins drives the
Hawkins Motorsports
#3 in the 360 division at
Placerville
(California) Speedway,
and with the
California
Sprint Car Civil War Series.
And the Vacaville-based team also fields sprint cars for Joey Magaruh
and Ron Myska at Placerville. Catch them if you can!
-
Streeter Racing
is a family team based in Santa Rosa, CA, with teenaged driver Matt
Streeter at the wheel of the #74 USAC/BCRA midget (that is, when he's
not attending high school in Salt Lake City!). Matt finished 3rd in the
BCRA points race in 1998. While you're there, don't miss the
John
D. Streeter Memorial
page, a tribute to Matt's dad, who passed away in February 1999.
Race drivers
Send me a note
if you know of a driver who belongs here.
-
Sarah Fisher
is one of a handful of female drivers disproving the notion that it
takes big cojones to race sprint cars, and now
Indy cars!
- Oklahoma City's
Shane Carson
is one of the stars of the NCRA, and a potential winner anywhere he
unloads the #12$ car owned by James Helms.
- Five-time North Island (New Zealand) midget champion
Graham Standring
shows that Americans don't have a lock on all the dirt driving talent!
- 1997-'98-'99 IMCA Sprint Car Champion
Johnny "Baja" Miller
hails from Burleson, Texas. Watch for Johnny at Boyd Raceway and North
Texas Motor Speedway, and other Texas tracks.
Racing museums
Yes, there are sprint car racing museums!
Racing businesses
These are the other businesses who keep the cars on the track, the
drivers out of the hospital, and the fans happy.
Racing supplies
Please patronize these suppliers when you're in need of parts or
supplies, whether you're a race car mechanic or speedway promoter.
-
One of the most famous short-track racing engine builders in the
country,
Gaerte Engines,
is now on the web. If you haven't heard of them already, just look
under the hood of America's most successful sprint cars!
- JRG Media offers a complete array of multimedia products and
services, including racing clip art collections and WWW page design.
Their corporate site is at
http://www.jrgmedia.com/.
- Kaeding Performance Center
is the race shop run by the legendary Kaeding racing family in
Campbell, California. While their specialty is sprint cars, parts and
motors, they also sell a variety of speed parts for everything from
street cars to drag boats. Catch up on the history of 3 generations of
sprint car race winners while you're here!
Racing photographers
My Web page wouldn't be nearly as interesting without the photos
provided by these ace shutterbugs. Please be sure to patronize them, or
at least ask them for permission when re-using photos from their sites.
Like most race drivers, most race photographers aren't exactly rolling
in cash, so please don't steal their work!
-
Tear-Off Heaven Fotos is a family
outfit run by Steve and Kim Lafond.
The Lafonds are die-hard race fans, and it shows in Steve's photos! I
am indebted to the Lafonds for many of the photos seen on my pages.
- Another family operation, this one a pair of brothers,
M&M Photos
covers anything that moves... in circles... in California.
Mark and Matt Sublett
are a pair of race photographers just starting to make a name for
themselves. Check out their page and see why!
- West Coast photographer Jim O'Brien's
JD Photographics
web site offers photography from the World of Outlaws, USAC, BCRA, and
other forms of racing, and beyond!
-
Steve's Racing Photo's
focuses (pun intended) primarily on Northern California racing. Have a
look at Steve LaMothe's work and see what you think.
Memorabilia and fan clothing
Here's stuff to read, wear, look at, and play with while you're
waiting for the next race.
-
Moose Racing's
Souvenir Trailer
offers clothing, custom jewelry, race-themed gift wrap and picture
frames, and lots more. Help support the Moose Racing #92 SCRA sprint
car!
Fan pages
Several other sprint car fans have Web pages about their favorite
form of racing. Here are a few.
- Want to find out where to see some good ol' fashioned dirt track
racing, including stocks, modifieds and of course sprints and midgets?
Check out
Tom's Down Home American Racing
Page. Tom hails from Arkansas, but has listings for tracks across
the US, links, and lots more!
- Dan Hendricks's
Sprint Car Racing Home
Page
makes up in enthusiasm whatever it might lack in content.
-
Short Track Racers on the Internet,
a member of the
Chasin' Racin'
family of sites, is another great photo-filled feast for the eyes!
Here the focus is on all kinds of oval track racing, including the
asphalt variety. But there's no shortage of sprint, midget and Silver
Crown action. Chucko sez check it out!
- Silicon Valley fans should check out the
San Jose Speedway
News
page, an unofficial news-and-happenings page from a fan's perspective.
Check out the message board too!
